I was once helping a client create a presentation about a lighting system that helps surgeons in the OR illuminate the surgical site better. After all, the best surgeon is the one who can see. This client was promising a high-tech solution—extra light right where it’s needed.
The initial version of the key slide is below. We call this the 10% slide because audiences typically forget about 90% of business content after 48 hours. We’re not so concerned with the amount of forgetting because we’re presenting to humans who have fallible memories. However, we are concerned with being deliberate about the 10% message because otherwise, not only do people forget a lot but the little they remember is random. So this slide needed to stick.
The core message? Return patients to normalcy by equipping surgeons with a light that lets them do their jobs better. This is what the first version of the slide looked like:
